AMMA TWO WHEELER SCHEME:

Keeping women empowerment as sole aim, TAMIL NADU government showed green flag on 22nd of January 2018 to “AMMA TWO WHEELER SCHEME” which would allow eligible women to avail themselves of a government maximum subsidy of up to 50% or INR 25,000 while purchasing a two wheeler under this scheme. This scheme will officially kick start by CM EDAPPADI K PALANISWAMI on 24th of February coinciding 70th birth anniversary of the former CM LATE J.JAYALALITHAA, our respected and endearing “AMMA”.
HISTORY OF THE SCHEME
The scheme was first announced by Ms. Jayalalitha as a promise during high voltage election campaign while releasing the AIDMK’election manifesto of 2016 at PERUNDURAI.
ABOUT THE SCHEME:
Announcing the guidelines for the ambitious scheme, the Tamil Nadu government said that women planning to purchase two wheelers under the scheme would receive a maximum subsidy of 50% or INR25000.It aimed to cover 1lakh working women every year and would be implemented at the cost of rupees 200crores.
ELIGIBILTY:
1. It is applicable only for women thereby focusing on “UPLIFTMENT OF FEMALE GENDER”.
2. AGE: 18 to 40 years
3. Annual income: less than 2.50lakhs
4. Should be bonafide resident of TamilNadu
5. Only one woman per women can get the benefit of this scheme
Note:
Preferences will be given to the single women running the family, women with disability (ies), widow and transgender.
HOW TO APPLY:
Adapting to DIGITAL INDIA CAMPIGN, Tamil Nadu government had kept a part of application procedure digital i.e. computer literate.
The form can be downloaded from TAMIL NADU CORPORATION OF DEVELOPMENT OF WOMEN (www.tamilnadumahalir.org) filled and submitted at the nearest Zonal office. The application form is available in two languages mainly ENGLISH and TAMIL in pdf format.
Applicants those who are interested and eligible for this opportunity have to submit their:
1. Age proof
2. Photograph
3. Income certificate
4. Caste certificate
5. Address proof
6. Valid driving license
7. Two wheeler quotation from an agency
8. Employment proof of the applicant
9. ADHAAR card( in case of absence of adhaar card 28 digit enrolment number may also be submitted)
This verification of document ensures that the benefits from the scheme may reach the eligible applicants and there is no forage or spam in the entire process bringing in transparency into the system.
MORE DETAILS ABOUT THE SCHEME:
Under this scheme, all two wheelers are involved i.e. scooty,scooter,bike(motor cycle) and even mopeds.
The leading brands which sell these two wheelers are: TVS, HERO,HONDA, SUZUKI, YAMAHA, and MAHINDRA. On their part, the automobile dealers reached the customers using their different marketing skills and techniques.
Owing to the popularity and public request, the scheme the deadline for the scheme which was earlier 5th of February has been extended to 10th of February. A large number of women had thronged to RTOS and Zonal Office District Corporation across the state in order to avail the benefits of the scheme. In order bid to meet the demand, RTO’S across the State functioned on Saturday last week.
CONCLUSION:
To conclude, “AMMA TWO WHEELER SCHEME” may turn out as a game changer that would not only provide economic independency to the working women but also help in breaking the convectional norms of the so called patriarchal society. As the overview hints, the scheme is directed towards the upliftment of suppressed women and transgender heading towards GENDER EQUALITY which is also one of the SDGs.
