INTRODUCTION:

Taking a note from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Digital India focus, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways headed by Nitin Gadkari has launched a new mobile app called ‘Sukhad Yatra’ and 1033 Toll-free Emergency number for highway user which is aimed to empower frequent highway users. Sukhad yatra mobile application has been developed by National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and offers a number of convenient features including real-time data waiting-time at toll-plazas.It also launched scheme for District Driving Training Centres and will provide grant of financial assistance for Road Safety Advocacy and awards for outstanding work in road safety.

Sukhad Yatra mobile application

Sukhad Yatra mobile application It has been prepared by National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to empower Highway user. Its key feature included
  • provision for user to enter road quality-related information and to report any accident or pothole on highway.
  • It also provides users with real-time related to the expected waiting time at Plazas and various facilities like points of interest, highway nest/nest mini, available across the highway.
  • The app can also be used by the users to purchase the FASTag tag and further facilitate the highway user experience.

Toll Free Number

• The toll-free number- 1033 – will enable users to report an emergency condition or highway-related feedback, across the highway.

• The service has also integrated with various ambulance and tow away services along the road to ensure rapid response time in case of emergency.

• The service is also supported by a multi-lingual support and user location tracking feature to provide the user with accurate and responsive complaint resolution.

Besides this, at least one model driving training centre will be set up in each district of the states and Union Territories. For the same, financial assistance of up to Rs 1 crore will be provided by the Ministry.

The main aim of the scheme would be to create employment and meet the requirement of HMV and LMV drivers in the country. It also aims at inculcating the habit of road safety, like behavioural and attitudinal changes among drivers.

The training course will be conducted for drivers who carry dangerous and hazardous goods. The agencies willing to open the centre shall be required to provide infrastructure facilities like land, class rooms and simulator.

Additionally, the Ministry has also announced its plan to set up at least one model driving training centre in each district of the State or Union Territory. Designed with an objective of creating employment and meeting the requirement of HMV and LMV drivers in the country, the aim here is to inculcate the habit of road safety among drivers, and conducting training for drivers who carry dangerous/hazardous goods. The agencies willing to open the centre shall be required to provide infrastructure facilities like land, classrooms, simulator, etc. The Road Transport & Highways Ministry will be providing financial assistance of up to ₹ 1 crore and an equal amount of the grant will be invested by the agency under the scheme.

 

CONCLUSION:

Over the years, Government has rolled a number of mobile-based apps and this is the first app to focus on safety and development of Indian roads and highways.

It also aims at inculcating habit of road safety, like attitudinal and behavioral changes among drivers. These centres will conduct training course for drivers carrying dangerous and hazardous goods. The agencies that will open centre will provide infrastructure like land, class rooms, simulator, etc.
