NCERT Class 9th Physics Chapter 1 Motion Summary Graphical representation of Motion

In previous Post we have covered topics:

1) Rate of a change of velocity

Representation of motion through graph can help us to know the dependency of one physical quantity on other and the nature of curve. We can extract so many information through graph.

Graphical representation of motion:

1.) Distance time graph

The change in position of object with respect to time can be represented with help of graph as distance time graph. The scale can be choosed according to convenience.

This is the distance time graph for uniform motion it is straight line or linear which shows that equal distance is covered in equal intervals. The slope of graph will give us velocity of object i . e.

v = S2-S1/ T2-T1

For example

v = 20-10 / 4-2

v = 10/2 = 5 m/s the velocity will be equal at all intervals as it is uniform motion.

This is distance time graph for non uniform motion the curve isn’t linear and shows that unequal distance is covered in equal time intervals. The velocity of graph can be determined by slope of graph but the velocity will not be equal at all intervals it is different for all intervals.
