1.Find:

(i) 0.4/2

Sol: First divide 4 by 2

We get 2

Now there is one digit to the right of the decimal point in 0.4. So place the decimal point in 2 such that there would be one digit to its right.

We get 0.2.

So 0.4/2 = 0.2

(ii) 0.35/5

Sol: First divide 35 by 5

We get 7

Now there are two digits to the right of the decimal point in 0.35. So place the decimal point in 7 such that there would be two digits to its right.

We get 0.07.

So 0.35/5 = 0.07

(iii) 2.48/4

Sol: First divide 248 by 4

We get 62

Now there are two digits to the right of the decimal point in 2.48. So place the decimal point in 62 such that there would be two digits to its right.

We get 0.62.

So 2.48/4 = 0.62

Sol: First divide 654 by 6

We get 109

Sol: First divide 1449 by 7.

We get 207.

Sol: First divide 396 by 4

We get 99.

Sol: First divide 80 by 5

We get 16.

Now there are two digits to the right of the decimal point in 0.80. So place the decimal point in 16 such that there would be two digits to its right.

We get 0.16.

So 0.80/5 = 0.16

2. Find:

(i) 4.8/10

Sol: First multiply and divide by 10.

We get 4.8 * 10/ 10*10 = 48/100.

Now place the decimal point in 48 such that there would be two digits to its right because there are two zeroes in 100.

We get 0.48.

So 4.8/10 = 0.48.

(ii) 52.5/10

Sol: First multiply and divide by 10.

We get 52.5* 10/ 10*10 = 525/100.

Now place the decimal point in 525 such that there would be two digits to its right because there are two zeroes in 100.

We get 5.25

So 52.5/10 = 5.25

(i) 7.9/1000

Sol: First multiply and divide by 10.

We get 7.9* 10/ 1000*10 = 79/10000.

So 7.9/1000 = 0.0079

(ii) 26.3/1000

Sol: First multiply and divide by 10.

We get 26.3* 10/ 1000*10 = 263/10000.

5. Find:

(i) 7/3.5

Sol: First multiply and divide by 10.

We get 7* 10/ 3.5*10 = 70/35

70/35 = 2 

So  7/3.5 = 2

(ii) 36/0.2

Sol: First multiply and divide by 10.

We get 36* 10/ 0.2*10 = 360/2

360/2 = 180

So 36/0.2 = 180

(iii) 3.25/0.5

Sol: First multiply and divide by 100.

We get 3.25* 100/ 0.5*100 = 325/50

325/50 = 6.5

So  3.25/0.5 = 6.5

(iv) 30.94/0.7

Sol: First multiply and divide by 100.

We get 30.94* 100/ 0.7*100 = 3094/70

3094/70 = 44.2

So 30.94/0.7 = 44.2

(v) 0.5/0.25

Sol: First multiply and divide by 100.

We get 0.5* 100/ 0.25*100 = 50/25

50/25 = 2

So 0.5/0.25 = 2

(vi) 7.75/0.25

Sol: First multiply and divide by 100.

We get 7.75* 100/ 0.25*100 = 775/25

775/25 = 31

So 7.75/0.25 = 31

(vii) 76.5/0.15

Sol: First multiply and divide by 100.

We get 76.5* 100/ 0.15*100 = 7650/15

7650/15 = 510

So 76.5/0.15 = 510

(viii) 37.8/1.4

Sol: First multiply and divide by 10

We get 37.8* 10/ 1.4*10 = 378/14

378/14 = 27

So 37.8/1.4 = 27

(ix) 2.73/1.3

Sol: First multiply and divide by 100.

We get 2.73* 100/ 1.3*100 = 273/130

273/130 = 2.1

So 2.73/1.3 = 2.1

6. A vehicle covers a distance of 43.2 km in 2.4 litres of petrol. How much distance will it cover in one litre of petrol ?

Sol: Distance covered in 2.4 litres of petrol = 43.2

So distance it will cover in 1 litre of petrol = 43.2/2.4

First multiply and divide by 10.

We get 43.2* 10/ 2.4*10 = 432/24

432/24 = 18

So 43.2/2.4 = 18

Therefore it will cover 18 kilometers in 1 litre of petrol.
