IBPS Clerk 2018 Notification Out
The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) announced the recruitment process for IBPS clerk for the year 2018 on 9th of September 2018. The notification is already out and the starting date for the registration is from the 18th of September 2018 till 10th of October 2018.
The date of preliminary examination for the IBPS clerk this year will be from 8th of December to 16th of December 2018. All the required and important dates and related information about the IBPS clerk 2018 has been given below.
IBPS Clerk Vacancies
There are more than 25 lakh of aspirants appears in IBPS Clerk every year and in comparison, of that, the number of vacancies for the IBPS Clerk exam in 2017 was 7883 only. As the IBPS is decreasing the number of vacancies year by year, taking this in mind, the number of vacancies expected for the IBPS Clerk 2018 was around 5000. But, the number of vacancies this year are more than 7200.

Eligibility Criteria for IBPS Clerk
The eligibility criteria for this exam are same as before, no changes have been observed. The eligibility criteria involve nationality eligibility, age limit eligibility and educational qualification eligibility. You have to check the eligibility criteria before applying for the exam. In case you fill the form without checking the eligibility, and then found to be not eligible for the exam, then IBPS has rights to disqualify your application.
Educational Qualification
- Candidates who have passed their graduation from any recognized university or any equivalent qualification recognized by the central government.
- Candidate must have working knowledge of computer to apply for the examination.
- The candidate must be able to read, write and speak the official language of the state or union territory he or she is applying for.
Age Limit
- The age for General category candidates should be in between 20 years to 28 years.
- Age relaxation of 5 years has been given to SC / ST candidates.
- 3 years of age relaxation for OBC candidates.
- Age relaxation of 10 years for PWD candidates.
- 3 years of age relaxation for ex – servicemen (army personnel) candidates.
- Age relaxation of 9 years for widows / divorced women candidates.
- J & K domicile person during the period from 01/ 01/ 1980 to 31/ 12/ 1989 will get age relaxation of 5 years.
- For the persons affected by 1984 riots, 5 years of age relaxation has been given.
Nationality
- Candidates having certificate of citizen of India are eligible.
- Candidates, who are citizen of either Bhutan or Nepal or Bangladesh, are eligible only when they have valid certificate stating that they have permanent intention to settle in India.
Selection Procedure for IBPS Clerk
The IBPS has divided the IBPS Clerk examination into two phases or stages. The first one is the Preliminary examination. If a candidate passes the examination then he or she will be eligible for the second stage which is the Mains examination. There is no interview. So, if you clear the mains examination, then you will get the provisional allotment in any of the branches in the respective bank.
Preliminary Examination
All the candidates who pass the sectional cut off as well as the overall cut off will get selected for the mains examination. The number of selected candidates and the cut off varies every year as per the number of vacancies issued by IBPS, the number of candidates appearing for the examination and on the basis of the level of difficulty of examination.
Mains Examination
For clearing the Mains examination, the candidate has to clear the sectional cut offs and overall cut off as well. The number of candidates gets selected after this phase is very limited as per the number of vacancies.
Provisional Allotment
After a candidate gets a place in the final result list, he or she will get the provisional allotment. It is not required that you may get selected for the bank you have preferred the most. So, while filling the form, do care before filling the preferences of the bank. Also, the date of joining for a candidate may vary with the different banks.

Preliminary Examination
For the preliminary exam in IBPS Clerk, there are 3 sections you need to qualify in. The first one is English Language, second is Numerical Ability and third is Reasoning Ability. There are total of 100 questions in the preliminary examination. Candidates will get a separate time of 20 minutes for each section in this online preliminary examination. The exam pattern for preliminary exam is given below –

Mains Examination
In the mains examination of the IBPS Clerk, there will be four sections that you are going to face. The first one will be of General English, second will be Reasoning and Computer Aptitude, third section will be Quantitative Aptitude and the last section will be of General and Financial Awareness. There will be a total of 190 questions for 200 marks, and you need to qualify the sectional as well as the overall cut off.

Negative Marking
There will be negative marking in both the objective type examinations, i.e; for preliminary exam and for the objective part of the mains examination. The penalty for wrong answer will be of 1/4th of the marks assigned to the question.

IBPS Clerk Admit Card
Candidates are advised to download their admit card for the IBPS Clerk preliminary examination from the official website only. The admit card for the preliminary examination will be made available on the official website approximately 10 days before the exam date.
Pre – Examination Training for IBPS Clerk
IBPS provides pre – examination training for the SC / ST and religious minority candidates. This training takes place at many cities with the help of nodal banks or the participating banks of your state. The SC/ ST or religious minority candidates can opt for this training while filling the examination form. It’s free of cost, so in case a candidate feels he or she should opt for this, they can go for it.
Also if a candidate has opted for the training, and now due to any reason, either don’t want to or can’t attend it, it’s perfectly fine. It is not at all compulsory to opt for or to attend the pre – examination training.
There are approximately 62 cities where the pre – examination training takes place. In case, there is no pre – exam training center in your city, you can opt for the nearest city.
IBPS Clerk Results
The IBPS declares the results of the preliminary examination usually within a week to 10 days after the examination. The result of the mains examination takes a maximum of around a month to get declared.

For IBPS Clerk 2018, the expected overall cut off for the preliminary examination would be around 75 marks.

An approximate salary for the post of clerk, selected through IBPS Clerical exam, in any public sector bank is in between Rs. 21,000/- to Rs. 23,000/- in a metro city. In other cities, the salary will be around Rs. 19,000/- to Rs. 20,000/-.

Career Growth or Promotions in IBPS Clerk
After getting a job as a clerk in a bank, through IBPS Clerk, you can get promotion to the officer level as well. For this, the main and most important thing is to be eligible for it. For being eligible to get promoted to the officer level, you need to work as a clerk for a minimum period of 2 years. After having experience of 2 years as a clerk, you can attempt for the internal exam to get promotion to the officer level. This can be done in two ways. The first one is to get promoted by normal process, in which, you have to qualify the promotion exam and then you will be awarded with the post of Trainee Officer (TO). Trainee Officer can later become PO. On the other hand, in the second method, known as merit basis process, you have to have JAIIB and CAIIB diploma, with your graduation or post graduation degree.
