Yashomati Thakur named Congress secretary, given Karnataka charge
- Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Saturday appointed Yashomati Thakur as AICC Secretary for the party affairs in the state.
- She is being attached to general secretary in-charge of Karnataka K C Venugopal, a statement from AICC general secretary Ashok Gehlot said.
- Thakur is an advocate and an MLA from Maharashtra, representing the Teosa Assembly constituency in the state.
ISRO loses contact with communication satellite GSAT-6A, efforts on to establish link
- Communication from the GSAT-6A satellite launched on March 29 has been lost and efforts are underway to establish a link with it, the Indian Space Research Organisation said Sunday, after maintaining an unusual silence on the health of the spacecraft.
- The second orbit raising operation of GSAT-6A has been successfully carried out by Liquid Apogee Motor (LAM) Engine firing for about 53 minutes on March 31, in the morning, the ISRO said in a statement.
Andhra CM inaugurates International Yachting Festival
- Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu flagged off the International Yachting Festival here on Thursday.
- Conducted by the State government, the festival, which is being held from March 29 to April 1, was inaugurated in the presence of IT minister Nara Lokesh, HRD minister Ganta Srinivasarao and other local MLAs.
Chandra Bhushan appointed Deputy EC
- Senior bureaucrat Chandra Bhushan Kumar has been appointed as Deputy Election Commissioner as part of a major bureaucratic reshuffle by the government.
- A total of 13 officers have been appointed as joint secretaries in different central government departments.
- Bhushan, a 1995 batch IAS officer of union territories cadre, has been appointed to the post for five years, an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) said.

Ashok Leyland to invest ₹ 340 cr in AP on bus making plant
- Ashok Leyland began construction of its bus making plant in Mallavalli Model Industrial Park, 40 kilometres from Vijayawada.
- The flagship company of the Hinduja Group will produce it’s first bus in coming six months according to the company.
- The foundation stone for the facility has been laid by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
Rivigo ties up with IDFC, YES Bank, for truck loans
- Rivigo, a homegrown logistics start-up that owns as well as acts as an aggregator of trucks, is tying up with YES Bank, IDFC and 10 other financial institutions to make cheaper funds available to truck owners and operators on its platform.
- The funds will be available at an interest rate of 1-2 per cent per month, lower than the usual industry standard of 2-3 per cent, said Deepak Garg, Rivigo’s founder and CEO.

Nepali Sherpa aims to scale Mount Everest for record 22nd time
- Nepali Sherpa is hoping to summit Mount Everest for a record-breaking 22nd time next month, during the busy climbing season that each year sees hundreds of climbers reach the top of the world.
- “I did not start climbing to set a world record. But in the course of my work in the guiding industry this is going to be my 22nd ascent. It wasn’t for any competition,” Mr. Kami Rita Sherpa told AFP in Kathmandu before setting out for the mountain.
Iraq gets its first cat hotel
- Veterinary student Ahmed Taher Maki has turned his home in the southern city into what he believes is Iraq’s first cat hotel.
- For as little as 5,000 Iraqi dinars (₹275) a night – or half that for long stays – the guests can enjoy beds, regular meals, health checkups and a mini playground, all under the cooling purr of an air conditioner.

Film director C.V. Rajendran passes away
- Tamil film director C.V. Rajendran, who was part of late C.V. Sridhar’s unit and directed a few memorable films like Kalatta Kalyanam, Sumathi En Sundari and Raja starring Sivaji Ganesan and Jayalalithaa and Ponoonjal, died aged 81 on Sunday.
- His last rites will be performed after the return of his son from the US.
Ajit Singh named new head of BCCI’s anti-corruption unit
- The BCCI on Saturday appointed former Rajasthan DGP Ajit Singh as the Head of its Anti-Corruption Unit, replacing former Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar.
- Neeraj, though, has been kept in advisory role in the ACU till May 31 2018.
- A 1982 – Rajasthan cadre IPS officer, Singh retired as Director General of Police, Rajasthan on November 30, 2017.
Google to kill its URL shortener ‘goo.gl’
- Google has announced it is winding down its URL shortener named goo.gl starting April 13 and asked users to consider using app-centric Firebase Dynamic Links (FDL) or similar popular services like Bitly and Ow.ly as an alternative.
- FDLs are smart URLs that allow one to send existing and potential users to any location within an iOS, Android or web platform.
