Notification

The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) will be announcing the notification of the Probationary Officer (PO) exam in the month of August / September 2018. IBPS has realized a notification and the tentative calendar for the year 2018 – 2019 in the month of January 2018, stating that the preliminary exam for IBPS PO recruitment 2018 will take place in the month of October 2018 and the mains exam will held in the month of November 2018.

According to the IBPS’s tentative calendar for the year 2018 – 2019, the preliminary exam for IBPS PO 2018 is expected to be held on 13th, 14th, 20th, and 21st October 2018. The expected date for the mains examination is 18th November 2018.

IBPS PO Vacancies

There are more than 200 thousands of aspirants appears in IBPS PO every year and in comparison of that, the number of vacancies for the IBPS PO exam in 2017 was 3562 only. As the IBPS is decreasing the number of vacancies year by year, taking this in mind, the number of vacancies expected for the IBPS PO 2018 is around 3000 only.

Important Dates for IBPS PO 2018

The events for the recruitment of the IBPS PO will start from the month of August 2018 and will continue till April 2019. Important dates regarding the IBPS PO examination 2018 are as follows.

Eligibility Criteria for IBPS PO

The eligibility criteria for this exam are same as before, no changes has been observed. The eligibility criteria involve nationality eligibility, age limit eligibility and educational qualification eligibility. You have to check the eligibility criteria before applying for the exam. In case you fill the form without checking the eligibility, and then found to be not eligible for the exam, then IBPS has rights to disqualify your application.

Educational Qualification

  1. Candidates who have passed their graduation from any recognized university or any equivalent qualification recognized by the central government.
  2. Candidate must have working knowledge of computer to apply for the examination.
  3. The candidate must be able to read, write and speak the local language of the state or union territory he or she is applying for.

Age Limit

  1. The age for General category candidates should be in between 20 years to 30 years.
  2. Age relaxation of 5 years has been given to SC / ST candidates.
  3. 3 years of age relaxation for OBC candidates.
  4. Age relaxation of 10 years for PWD candidates.
  5. 5 years of age relaxation for ex – servicemen (army personnel) candidates.
  6. Age relaxation of 9 years for widows / divorced women candidates.
  7. J & K domicile person during the period from 01/ 01/ 1980 to 31/ 12/ 1989 will get age relaxation of 5 years.
  8. For the persons affected by 1984 riots, 5 years of age relaxation has been given.

Nationality

  1. Candidates having certificate of citizen of India are eligible.
  2. Candidates, who are citizen of either Bhutan or Nepal or Bangladesh, are eligible only when they have valid certificate stating that they have permanent intention to settle in India.

Selection Procedure for IBPS PO

The IBPS has divided the IBPS PO examination into three phases or stages. The first one is the Preliminary examination. If a candidate passes the examination then he or she will be eligible for the second stage which is the Mains examination. After clearing the mains examination the candidate has to go through with the third phase which is the Interview. Once you clear the interview, than you will get the provisional allotment in any of the branches in the respective bank.

Preliminary Examination

All the candidates who pass the sectional cut off as well as the overall cut off will get selected for the mains examination. The number of selected candidates and the cut off varies every year as per the number of vacancies issued by IBPS, the number of candidates appearing for the examination and on the basis of the level of difficulty of examination.

Mains Examination

For clearing the Mains examination, the candidate has to clear the sectional cut off and overall cut off as well. The number of candidates gets selected for the interview phase is approximately 3 times the number of vacancies.

Interview

If a candidate qualifies the preliminary and mains examination, he or she gets selected for the interview phase. The interview will be conducted by the nodal bank of the state or union territory by the help of IBPS.

Provisional Allotment

After a candidate gets a place in the final result list, he or she will get the provisional allotment. The final list of the selected candidates depends upon the candidate’s performance in the mains examination and in the interview. The marks of these two are added to make the final list. It is not required that you may get selected for the bank you have preferred the most. So, while filling the form, do care before filling the preferences of the bank. Also the date of joining for a candidate may vary with the different banks.

Exam Pattern for IBPS PO

As we have already discussed above, that there are three phases to qualify to be a Probationary Officer through IBPS, so now we will discuss about the examination pattern for the preliminary examination and for the mains examination.

Preliminary Examination

For the preliminary exam in IBPS PO, there are 3 sections you need to qualify in. The first one is English Language, second is Numerical Ability and third is Reasoning Ability. There are total of 100 questions in the preliminary examination. Candidates will get a composite time of 1 hour for the examination. The exam pattern for preliminary exam is given below –

Mains Examination

In mains examination there are a total of 5 sections. Out of these 5 sections, 4 sections are for the objective test and the remaining one is a descriptive test. The objective test will have a maximum of 200 marks, divided among the 4 sections and the descriptive test will be of 25 marks. The detailed pattern of IBPS PO Mains examination is given below –

Interview

After qualifying the mains examination, the next stage is the interview. The interview consists of a total of 100 marks and a candidate need to score at least 40% to qualify the interview. For SC/ ST/ OBC/ PWD candidates, the qualifying marks are 35%. The weightage of the marks of interview for the final selection is in the ratio with the marks obtained in the mains examination. The ratio is 80:20 for mains: interview.

Negative Marking

There will be negative marking in both the objective type examinations, i.e; for preliminary exam and for the objective part of the mains examination. The penalty for wrong answer will be of 1/4th of the marks assigned to the question.

Fees Payment Methods for IBPS PO

Fees have to be paid online only. There is no other means to submit fees.

IBPS PO Admit Card

Candidates are advised to download their admit card for the IBPS PO preliminary examination from the official website only. The admit card for the preliminary examination will be made available on the official website approximately 10 days before the exam date.

Pre – Examination Training for IBPS PO

IBPS provides pre – examination training for the SC / ST and religious minority candidates. This training takes place at many cities with the help of nodal banks or the participating banks of your state. The SC/ ST or religious minority candidates can opt for this training while filling the examination form. It’s free of cost, so in case a candidate feels he or she should opt for this, they can go for it.

Also if a candidate has opted for the training, and now due to any reason, either don’t want to or can’t attend it, it’s perfectly fine. It is not at all compulsory to opt for or to attend the pre – examination training.

There are approximately 62 cities where the pre – examination training takes place. In case, there is no pre – exam training center in your city, you can opt for the nearest city.

IBPS PO Results

The IBPS declares the results of the preliminary examination usually within a week to 10 days after the examination. The result of the mains examination takes a maximum of around a month to get declared.

An approximate salary of a probationary officer, selected through IBPS PO, in any public sector bank is in between Rs. 39,000/- to Rs. 42,000/-, in a metro city. In state capitals, the salary will be around Rs. 38,500/- to Rs. 41,000/-.

Work Profile of IBPS PO

  1. Probationary Officers are into customer dealing. They also need to maintain and supervise the day – to – day bank activities.
  2. A probationary officer also needs to look after for the public relations, need to address customer related issues, approving and monitoring the daily branch transactions, regulating the daily branch activities and need to handle loan processing.
  3. They are also responsible to verify the work done by the clerks, needs to be aware with the policies and decisions made by the management, and also to implement the policies in the branch.

Career Growth or Promotions in IBPS PO

After selecting in a bank, you need to work there as a probationary officer for at least 2 years (this number could vary with different banks). After this time period of 2 years gets completed, you will be promoted to the post of Assistant Manager. For this, you have to pass the internal examination. After you become the assistant manager, your career growth will start as follows –
